So, I just spent the day in Ryan Freeland’s Studio in Venice, CA.
Here’s some links about Ryan:
- Here’s a write-up about him in Mix Magazine.
- His discography (Artists he’s worked with. Some impressive credits!)
My producer, Matthew Libman and I met through Matt Searle, my manager. This is my first time going through the “real-deal” process of making an album as a solo artist. I can’t believe how smooth it’s gone so far. I’m so pleased!!
We hired some incredible studio musicians who’ve played on just about everyone’s albums, from John Mayer to Sheryl Crow. These guys were super cool; the epitome of what L.A. has to offer. They were great to work with, and when you hear the final product, you’ll know why I say that!
Today was only meant for drums and bass. I played along with the tracks to give them a good song reference. We worked from 10AM to 7PM with a few breaks for lunch and such. It was a long day, but a very productive one. We got solid takes for the 3 songs that will be on the finished EP.
I can’t believe I’m having the opportunity to work with such intelligent, professional people. My producer sent out my demo and they wanted to do it! He says that these guys of course get enough offers to where they can be selective. They came ready to work and were excited about my music. That felt really good
Since this is my maiden voyage into the world of music, it feels really good to hear seasoned studio pros talking excitedly about your tunes. Really. It’s great motivation. We’re off to a good start…
